Is there any way to read map created in AIPS into Difmap?
The context; as a newbie, I just discover Difmap and I have some clean maps generated by AIPS (that I didn't discover so long ago :$). I would like to make Gaussian fit in Difmap (JMFIT failed in AIPS) without having to do the cleaning again. I only know "observe" to import data in Difmap. It seems to accept only uv data (failed with ".icl" from AIPS). Also the uv file export after the cleaning from AIPS seems to contain the residual map in Difmap. It sounds pretty normal, but maybe I am missing a point here. Can we "extract/add/..." the clean map to/of the uv file in order to get also the clean map in Difmap (the SN tables of the uv file should contain this information)?
Sorry if the answer is obvious. I travel a lot around the web and can't find anything, but a little treasure instead; this site
I haven't tried to do what you're talking about. Because difmap focuses strongly on the residual map (i.e. difmap!) as an iterative process it is usually a good idea to reimage the data in difmap from the calibration point of AIPS.
You may be able however be able to extract the clean components from your sn table and then import them as a model in difmap using rmodel.
I think rmodel will do what you need but I'm not sure on the details. Jay
